You don't see a lot of obituaries that start like this:
"Well, the aptly named Robert Strange McNamara has finally shuffled off to join LBJ and Dick Nixon in the 7th level of Hell."
-Joesph Galloway, Vietnam War correspondent, author of "We Were Soldiers Once And Young"
Brilliant. Had a similar out of body experience in a previous life as a copy editor at the Gomiuri, working my way through a turgid allegedly-written-by-Kissenger op ed piece, when I was told by the bucho to "edit it, but don't change anything". Right about then I realised me and serious journalism were finished. Just took another 10 years to have the balls and opportunity to do something about it.
ReplyDeleteCarry on.
i have a variation on that experience just about every day.
