300,000 followers of Muqtada al-Sadr turned out for an anti-occupation rally in Baghdad the other day. Apparently someone forgot to tell CNN. Bob Harris has a good round up of the info and photos on his excellent, though somewhat pudu-infested, blog

Living a Jerry Lee Lewis Song in Tokyo

Yesiree, a whole lotta shaking going on! At 7:22 this morning, the biggest earthquake I remember feeling in my eight years in Tokyo. A magnitude of 6.1 on the ol' Richter scale and an upper 5 on the Japanese scale of 7. The magnitude 7 to 8 quake that is expected to hit the Kanto plain sometime between 1980 and tomorrow is predicted to kill about 10,000 people outright and level parts of the city. And you urban pussies in the US whine about gang violence and crack houses!

Suggested new tourism slogan:
Tokyo is for lovers--Come and feel the earth move!

Velveeta - the movie
