Big in Japan
You only think you know how weird it is to be a non-Japanese living in Japan. In fact, you have no idea. I'd nearly forgotten that last weekend was the big celebration of the American Vice President in Kawasaki. I went to this festival about ten years ago, as many new ex-pats do. Weird doesn't begin to describe it.

I am so glad that the Japanese exist. But, unlike endless numbers of North American teens and Gen Y mooks, I accept that they cannot be understood. And that is a good thing.
Thanks for the window into a wacky world.
So, do your kids give you a special, "Dad, you just don't get it" look? Mine is still too young, but it is coming.
My daughter had mastered the art of the frustrated eyeroll before she could speak in full sentences. I live in dread of what she will be like at 15.
