Out of hit points and missed the saving throw
The man who co-created Dungeons and Dragons and sparked the rise of role-playing games and gaming generally in the 70s and 80s, Gary Gygax died earlier this week. I enjoyed the game very much in my younger day (yes, I know you're shocked that such a suave, debonaire, man of the world like myself was high school nerd -- cope with it) and many of the friendships I formed playing the game are still going strong. I learned team work, communication, problem-solving, history, mythology and creativity...and only a little bit about worshipping demons and black magic and dice odds, honest. Thanks Gary.
